Ask Alex: Who exactly is Lilith?
This question was submitted by
Jamie:
I heard the story of Lilith just the other day. Someone
told me that she was Adams twin sister. Reading this I have
come to know different so, who exactly is Lilith. I’m very
confused about how she has originated?
Dear Jamie,
Thank you for your question. We should be very
careful of what ‘people tell us’, because the truth can be most
elusive, like a half-forgotten dream.
The problem with the ‘Adam and Eve’ story in the
book of Genesis is that Adam and Eve had two sons, Cain and
Abel. Cain rises up against his brother Abel and slays him.
Then, we read, Cain ‘goes to the Land of Nod, East of Eden,
where he takes for himself a wife’. My question to Christian
and biblical fundamentalists has always been, who was Cain’s
wife? Where did she come from, given that there were only three
people left on earth? No one has ever been able to answer. Even
more, Cain and his ‘wife’ build a city for themselves called
Shiloh. Two people in a whole city.
So, the story in Genesis is either a complete
fiction, or it is an attempt to mask and corrupt the true
events of that time. I would suggest that the second solution
is the most probable.
As regards who Lilith is, I think if you read the
articles on the web site, and maybe the book itself, and the
next book when it eventually appears, you will achieve a very
good understanding of this question.
She is certainly not the wife of Cain! Heaven
forbid. Nor was she ever the wife of Adam.
I can answer the riddle I have posed regarding the
book of Genesis, but to be honest, I want you to desire the
truth as a person in the desert desires water, and if I make it
easy for you your obviously intelligent mind will not be
stimulated!
Thank you for your interest.
Very best wishes,
